Welcome to grand caymans !
We anchored off of the coast at about 7:30am this morning. Beautiful weather, almost cloudless skies. We tendered in via small boats and embraced the island with open arms.
My first impression of grand cayman was kind of blah. Lots of concrete, lots of jewelry stores, no where near as festive as Cozumel, and kind of old and no glitz at all. We decided to take an island tour, so we got to see parts of the island away from the area near the port.
Here are some things we learned about grand caymans:
1. It was originally named " La Tortuga" (turtle island) and later changed by the British to grand cayman island because of it's shape
2. There are no taxes on GC, no income tax, no property tax, no sales tax
3. Grand caymans means if you only brought a grand to spend then you won't stay long
4. They are right/left drivers, steering wheel on the right and they drive ln the left side of the road
5. When foreigners come to drive at GC you get a white license plate so everyone will know to watch out for you!
We also visited a cool turtle farm, the highlight of my day.

We rode into the island on a "tender". Basically it is a covered boat that holds from 250 to 300 people.

Gosh, Tonjia! You've done a great job with the photos...I feel like I'm there and can feel the sun on my face!! I wouldn't have touched the turtle LOL
